Roller Coaster

It starts off without a hitch,
on its way up,
smoothly gliding on the rails,
not a bump in sight.

The first plunge down,
only giving the strength
to keep moving
and ride the rails up.

The going is still smooth,
only some ups and downs
but then a bump,
a horrendous bump,
at the smoothest part of all.

It feels as though rocks are on the track,
getting under the wheels and flying up in your face,
all you can do is sit there and wonder what to do,
at times you wonder when the bumps will stop,
hopefully it will be soon.

The bumps stop and the car begins to ascend,
higher and higher it goes,
the weather turns cold, but you thank the peace
that burns like a flame, keeping the chill out.

The tranquil travel up abruptly ends,
the straight shot down comes out of nowhere,
the car begins to shake violently,
the slightest nudge could send it off the tracks,
but you hold on,
no matter how bumpy it is and how nice it would be to let go,
you don't.

Suddenly out of the gloom comes a corkscrew,
a joyous corkscrew,
anything is better than the horrid plummet you just faced,
pure ecstasy bubbles up inside you,
oh how the corkscrew makes you giddy with laughter.

The corkscrew slows down just as fast as it started,
now it is on a straight away,
just moving forward,
slowly creeping forward,
there is nothing behind you now.

And as if by magic the car is shooting upwards,
smoothly making it's way,
faster and faster it goes,
until it is just a blur.

A smile creeps upon your face,
you can't help but look back and laugh,
the ride so far has seemed like a life time,
but in truth it has just begun.

This is the ride known as life.

Laugh Out Loud

A giggle, a chuckle, a silent fit of nonstop laughter. If there is such a thing that is more powerful that the yawn (Yea, the yawn, I'd love to see you try to ignore a reflex you brain sends to your ENTIRE body!) it would be the laugh. To laugh is to feel good. To laugh is to make others feel good. However the laugh can be used for evil, as can everything in this world, in it's purest form the laugh can change lives. When you laugh you can't help but feel good, you can't help but smile. A laugh is like a spoonful sugar; it helps the medicine go down (not LITERALLY).

Laughter is contagious, but it's the one thing that is worth catching. To laugh is to live and enjoy whatever it is you are doing at the moment. It is to live in the moment. It is better than any drug. It is that moment where nothing else matters but your laugh. The bubbling feeling of an oncoming fit of laughter can make even the grumpiest person giddy with joy. To laugh is to take away all your fear, anger, and frustration. If, just if, the world could learn to laugh more then it would be a much better place.

Birthdays

Birthdays are wonderful things.
They make you feel like you are on top of the world.
They are the one day where you feel like you can do what you want.
They make a warm feeling deep down, whether it is your birthday or a friends.

Birthdays are memories to cherish forever.
Sometimes they are lessons that life has to offer you.
Sometimes they can lift you out of a seemingly endless funk.
Sometimes they give you a smile that just will not go away, no matter what.

Birthdays remind you of the smiles you share.

Birthdays remind you of the people you care about.

Birthdays remind you that there are reasons to keep on going.

Birthdays are wonderful things.
